Meteorik Records is here!
This is late indeed, but as some of you might know Meteorik Records kicked off with two great launch gigs at High Spirits, Pune and Legends Of Rock, Bangalore where the first three releases by Caesars Palace, Spook and Slow Down Clown went public. The releases have been selling well and can be bought at the bands’ Bandcamp pages and other locations.(check here for the same)
A bit about the label and the releases:
Meteorik Online is an online radio that was started in 2009 owing to the need of an outlet and platform for quality bands and independent artistes in the Indian subcontinent. Meteorik Records is an extended publishing branch of the same concept and well produced, original sounding releases is our forte. Launched in October 2010 with 3 well received EPs by three fresh sounding acts, Meteorik plans to take the independent movement in India forward by sourcing out the choicest of bands and helping them producing quality recordings which can be spread out to every corner of the country and the globe.
Caesars Palace – Mindfield EP
Bangalore’s Caesars Palace have been in and out of the live scene since 2006, when the first got together as musicians from different bands getting together to try something fresh and original with their skills. Gigging actively in their first 2 years of existence wherein they developed a decent amount of following for their own funk laced, blues driven originals and played some big gigs and festivals around the country(including the Delhi Eastwind Festival 2008, Independence Rock 2007 Mumbai, Bangalore Habba 2006 etc) , the band became a bit inactive post mid 2008 owing to various reasons. But the music could not keep them away for too long and the boys were back with a gig at Blue Frog in Mumbai in September 2009 with some new music and the band started gigging more regularly this time. This comeback of sorts has led to their first 4 recordings in the form of ‘Mindfield’ which is an EP that showcases the different facets of the bands music and the unique creative process. From the riff-driven, odd timed ‘Bittersweet Mind’ to the almost dance-pop ‘Get Your Mojo On!’, this band has a spanking new introspective story to tell.

Slow Down Clown – Say Nothing EP
Slow Down Clown is the brainchild of Mumbai based singer-songwriter Vitek Goyel whose acoustic guitar/one man band songs take on a unique trip in this avatar. The music makes an interesting blend of sounds ranging from folk, to alternative to punk rock. Most interesting are probably some of the lyrical themes displayed in the bands music, and the interpretations of them. They truly display the wide range of human emotion, going from happy to sad, anxious to sternly calm, and all the feelings in between. Being a newly formed group, Slow Down Clown are currently getting good reviews on their first EP – ‘Say Nothing’ and being a fresh sounding project, they are trying to actively gig as much as possible in support of the same. Their tracks ‘Say Nothing‘ and ‘Heartstrings’ have already become staple sing along’s amongst their fans.

Spook – Underwaterseabird EP
Spook was formed in Mumbai by five youngsters who were trying to give a voice to some brand new melodies which were crying to be played. It clicked, and in their close to two year existence, Spook is one of the better known bands in Mumbai’s original – alternative scene gigging more actively than most other bands in the local circuit. This hardworking bunch have also put together their first EP which contains five cohesive tracks that showcase songwriting talent and a simple identity that works with listeners. We say so because their tracks ‘The Way’ , ‘Three Screwdrivers’ and the brand new ‘Winter Rain’ are most wanted requests at their usually well attended shows. Songwriting is the bands strength and they promise to find a unique sound and go a long way with some stellar sounding tunes that are bound to floor many a listener(s).

Indian indie evolution a myth?Says Who?
The indie scene is finally looking at making a breakthrough into the listeners’ narrow mindsets in our country with the aid of social networking, online publishing and availability of better recording facilities over the past few years. It is now that w
Barefaced Liar
Barefaced Liar is a bit bare laced with half-truths. True to their sound, maybe not as true as how they should sound. Admitted, I was a bit apprehensive after watching a non-descript performance at the NH7 concert in Pune, but one show is not a fair judgment.
Allegro Fudge
Who: Allegro Fudge Where: Bangalore How: Their first composition ‘Plight’ recorded about two years ago sounds like a cut-copy-paste of an Evanescence song with its clean piano and almost there female vocals, but don’t be quick to judge Allegro Fudge. T
