Welcome to Meteorik.

Meteorik Online marks the commencement of a rather ambitious project. The goal is pretty straightforward – ‘promote quality independent music’.

The indie music scene is by no means new to India. However, in recent years, we have seen a number of new artists and bands with a genuine belief that indie music can be a career choice. There is a sudden boom in great original music coming out of all corners of the country. Great artistes and bands have sprung up in metropolitan cities including Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta, Chennai and Bangalore and even smaller cities like Pune and Shillong. Music festivals have moved out of cities to far flung locations like Ladakh, Mussourie and Goa. The country is on the cusp of a youth revolution with music at its very heart.

While we generally tend to notice quite a large number of angsty young men in black t-shirts and blue jeans playing distortion till kingdom come, Indie bands (in the subcontinent) do go across genres. Meteorik has gathered music from artistes from all corners of the country and abroad and has created a rather respectable collection, which we hope to grow along with our audience.

So far, indie musicians in India have only been able to showcase their talent in a very limited way, primarily via live performances at competitions, colleges and drinking establishments. This, however, does not mean that these guys lack a fan base. Meteorik intends to target this growing group of people starting from high school and college students to their parents and open their eyes to indie music at a new level. We intend, for starters, to provide a forum where people can listen to and discuss music along with the ability to branch out into more exclusive content for the serious listener. Being relatively broke, we decided that the best place to begin would be to start a small online radio station and keep our fingers crossed. So here it is…
